Marshall J. Auerbach is a specialist in matrimonial law and is the author of the Illinois Marriage and Dissolution of Marriage Act, which was passed by the legislature, signed by the governor and enacted into law in 1977. This Act was the first major revision of the laws in Illinois pertaining to marriage and divorce in 103 years. It completely revised, codified and streamlined the law in the matrimonial area. It is the most comprehensive matrimonial act in all of the fifty states. Millions of Illinois citizens have been divorced under this Act.

Marshall J. Auerbach argued the constitutionality of the key provisions of the law before the Supreme Court of Illinois and was successful. He conducted seminars throughout Illinois teaching the law he wrote to Illinois lawyers. The Illinois Marriage and Dissolution of Marriage Act substantially changed the laws relating to divorce and how divorce cases are handled. He has been the lead author of the Historical and Practice Notes to the Illinois Marriage and Dissolution of Marriage Act published as part of the Illinois statutes from 1978 to 1988. These Historical and Practice Notes written by Marshall J. Auerbach have been cited hundreds of times in opinions written by judges of the Illinois Appellate Court and the Illinois Supreme Court.

Marshall J. Auerbach has been on the leading edge of new developments in this ever changing field of law. He has lectured on tax and corporate aspects of dissolution of marriage cases and has written extensively in the matrimonial law area. His philosophy is that legal services should not be limited to only the most affluent.
